Time to clean the conservatory roof

The weather in Henfield like in most other places in the country is very wet, but a great opportunity for cleaning the outside roofs of conservatory’s as the grimed in dirt will have been dislodged and a little detergent will remove the rest, if you time it right the rain will rinse it off. But now the hosepipe ban is off a good jet washer should do the trick!

Remember you do need to rinse off any detergent you use otherwise the PVC will lose it’s shine.

Chewing Gum Removal

More tips from your Cleaner from Henfield

From time to time I come across chewing gum, which is always difficult for cleaners to deal with, but whilst most of the time one of these methods will work it really depends how long the gum has been in place.

For fresh gum one method I use is to place ice around the gum and allow it to go cold and hard then get off as much as you can with a blunt knife, this may take two or three tries.

For older gum a method I use is to apply ‘deep heat’ rub onto the gum then use a hair dryer to heat up the gum and remove – remember to use gloves for this one! – Once the spot has been removed wash with soap and water – a lemon or orange based cleaner is best.

Unfortunately none of the above can be guaranteed as it really does depend on the age of the gum – Just get the kids to put it in the bin!

Cleaners Getting back into the groove around Henfield

Well I did not appreciate how much Charlie could tire me out, I am just so grateful to have Mum there to give me a break, don’t get me wrong I love him to bits but just being away and doing something I enjoy for a few hours makes his little smiling face all the more welcoming. It is nice to find out that Henfield shops cater so well for babies it really saves me going into Brighton or Horsham.

As for Cleaning him well that could give me content for a whole new blog Cleaners in Henfield clean up babies – No thanks one is enough!

Will focus on getting some more cleaners articles up in the next few weeks, but just getting myself back on my feet.

Till the next time

Henfield Cleaner back in Action

I would like to say thank you to Jenna and others who have helped me cover my clients in Henfield and beyond during these past few weeks – but now I am ready to take up the reins and get back to work.

Keeping my little boy Charlie clean has been a delightful chore over the past few weeks but his keeping me up at night was tiring at first but is now starting to get better. But (we) need to get out into the real world.

I am hoping you do not mind me bringing him on occasions as in the day he is as quiet as a mouse, but my Mum is always willing to drop everything to help so this should never be a problem.

The web site www.cleanershenfield.com has been great and I have attracted a lot of new clients, so I am keen to get on top of things.

Well hope to see you all very soon.

Spring is the Best Time to Clean your Home Throughout

Another tip from the cleaners of Henfield.

Spring is a great time to de-clutter your home, go and look at your wardrobe that needs a clean out or perhaps go to your attic or garage.

If you think this is just too much then try and attack the clear out like a ‘eating the elephant’ project as my Dad always called it. How do you eat an elephant – in small bite sizes.

In other words if you are looking at a big job like an attic or garage then just take a box at a time or choose just a few square feet and just concentrate on that for the day or weekend.

De cluttering is very therapeutic in terms of mindset, clearing and cleaning is very satisfying as it is one less job for you to do. Plus the added benefit is you may find some old relics or nick nacks that you could sell on e-bay or craigs list and earn some extra cash instead of just dumping it at the tip.

As a cleaner I often recommend to my customers to de clutter areas they have not used for a while or are always complaining about an area they are not happy about like a full wardrobe etc.

So go on before the summer gets here make a resolution to clear out part of your house.

Cleaning Tips for Your Bathroom

I am not sure I have come across anyone who enjoys cleaning the bathroom, not even experienced cleaners, unfortunately everybody uses the family bathroom so this is one area that really cannot be left.

I always find as a cleaner you treat it like another room and before long that’s exactly what it becomes, so long as you have a good pair of rubber gloves and the right cleaning products you should be able to do  good job.

Some of the things you need will be familiar to you, bulk standard window cleaner a squeegee and some dry rags to cover all the mirrors. Most people have more than one.

You will also need bleach and/or disinfectant, a couple of sponges which you may have to get rid off after if the bathroom has not been cleaned for a while. Some vinegar just in case the shower head is blocked and some tooth picks!

Some good old cotton rags and a tooth brush or nail brush are also very useful to take out those really tough stains, some baking soda and lemon mix 50/50. If not use a good commercial cleaner.

So now we have all we need the first thing to do is clear the kitchen of all unwanted junk, which may be clothing or even cosmetics, deodorants etc, which I would normally put into a spare box so it does not get in the way.

Start at the top and if the shower is blocked allow the head to sit in a bag of ordinary vinegar while you get on and start cleaning down the mirrors, but make sure you only immerse as much of the shower head as you need as vinegar will sometimes take off some chrome. If the bath or shower has a full length mirror then instead of using a rag use a rubber wiper that you use for windows.

If the bath or sink stains are bad you may wish to mix some water and bleach together and allow to soak into the stains for a good 10-15 minute before flushing through with plain water.  Whilst your are waiting take the mix of baking soda and lemon or commercial cleaner and put it around the taps and use the toothbrush to get into those difficult areas after this is done you can wash down with water and flush out the bath.

Take the shower head out of the bag flush through with water and use the tooth picks to clean out any blocked jets, clean the sink and bath down wipe dry and that leaves you with the toilet.

Flush two to three times to make sure you have clean water in the pan and use a toilet brush to push the water out and get the level a low as possible, then spray bleach or a good commercial cleaner down the pan and use the sponges to clean out the pan and flush through with water. Clean the seat and outside surfaces with disinfectant, flush the whole thing through two to three times using the toilet brush to get to the first part of the u bend.

Finally take some hot water add some disinfectant and mop down the floor as you leave the bathroom,  then wipe the floor dry with your cotton rags and that is it. One clean bathroom.

Cleaning Tips for Around the Home

As I go around cleaning peoples homes around Henfield I keep coming up against similar problems in most people’s homes and would like to share with you a few of these together with some solutions I use.

In Henfield gas is used more than electric for cooking and gas hobs can leave quite stubborn stains, which are normally burnt on or very difficult to remove. Soapy water will remove some of the stains but those harder to remove stains can only be removed in one of two ways.

Bleach is a good all round remover and if left to soak around the burner (when off) into the stains for around 30 minutes, this will effectively remove 99% of all stains. However bleach is a very aggressive product and although will do the job some people are nervous of using bleach because it can cause stains on clothing.

Another product that can be used which is in most homes today is biological powder either on its own or combined with baking soda (which helps remove odours) in a 50/50 mix combined with water and left for around 20-30 minutes will clean very stubborn stains.

A method I prefer in to use is neat biological powder mixed with water into a paste and applied to the hob area and left for around 30 minutes, after this time clean off with hot soapy water then finally rub the cleaned area with half a lemon and wipe off with a dry cloth. This will take out all the odours and leave a clean refreshing smell in your kitchen.

Fridge rubbers are a really good capture area for dirt and grime, especially that groove that is in the middle. You can use a good disinfectant to clean out the area then wash out with warm water.

Another very effective method I learnt from another cleaner in Henfield was to use a toothbrush and some whitening toothpaste (not ordinary), as the whitening paste has a little bleach in it. If you take a toothbrush and clean out the groove you will be amazed at the results. An important thing to note is that you must clean our the grooves with warm water and a dry cloth as the bleach if left will rot rubber, so beware.

Fridge surfaces can be a nightmare but one trick I have learned from another cleaner in Henfield is to clean the surface with lemon and water to get rid of most of the stains without scratching the panel then a light spray with furniture polish and lightly wipe off with a duster. You do not want to scrub too hard, as you want the polish to give the door protection.

So next time you spill something on the outside of the fridge door you can clean off with soap and water you will be surprised how well this works and makes life a little bit easier.

Well I hope these tips from cleaners in Henfield work for your home.

Cleaners in Henfield Struggle to get around

Wow the weather is the coldest for years and now we are having trouble getting around, although the main roads are staying clear I am having trouble getting to my off road customers in Henfield. But I am sure all cleaners are in the same position, luckily people are now cutting back before Christmas.

Coming across some new clients who are letting off their home over the Christmas period around Brighton and Henfield and are requesting a last minute throughout house clean. I often do this for Landlords in between tenants, but this is the first year I have come across clients ‘lending’ out their homes over the Christmas period.

Frozen ice can cause a lot of problems when it thaws especially if the drains are blocked, on my rounds I still see drain grills covered in leaves all around Henfield, a quick clearance will prove worthwhile.

Leave a rubber mat outside the doorstep which will not only give you extra trip in the ice but will help clean a lot of the mud and snow off before you enter your home and keep the mess in the hallway to a minimum.

If you are leaving your home in Henfield over Christmas make sure to leave the thermostat on minimum or around 5 degrees C. Although you probably do not need the services of cleaners over this period, leave your home neat and tidy when you leave as you will help you come into nice surroundings when you return.

Well I wish all my customers in Henfield and the surrounding areas a very merry Christmas and hope to see you in the new year with some more cleaners tips.
